We love Easter, not only because it signals the start of spring and longer days but also, because it’s the perfect excuse for entertaining friends and indulging in delicious foods.
Styling your table to host an Easter brunch or soirée doesn’t need to be an intimidating feat, nor should it simply mean smatterings of foil chocolate wrappers and smears of melted butter from those delicious hot cross buns (although a little bit of that is okay with us).
Think spring blooms, seasonal produce and a touch of chic whilst keeping things fun; after all, for many people this holiday is about a magical rabbit delivering chocolate eggs, for others it’s a celebration of their faith, and for some it is simply an extra-long weekend – what’s not fun about that?!
WHAT’S IN SEASON: FLOWERS
Florals for spring? Ground-breaking, we know, but there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.
While the weather may not be garden party-ready enough to dine alfresco, styling with seasonal florals and Pantone’s colour of the year, Greenery, will certainly help to bring the outdoors in.
Keep things simple by choosing foliage and leaves along with your favourite seasonal flower; with April comes the blossoming of daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, ranunculus, lilac, blossom, bluebells and iris. We love to style with tulips and white ranunculus; they give any table a touch of luxe whilst not taking too much attention away from the food, which we believe should always be the hero of any table.
Speaking of food, don’t be afraid to style with it. Sharing platters and grazing stations are one of the hottest trends in catering and events at the moment and are something you can easily recreate in your own home. What’s more, wooden boards piled with colourful foods are not only a tasteful (pun intended) and on-trend centrepiece, but they enable your guests to serve themselves so that you can relax.
Whether you decide to go with florals or food to dress your table, you’re still going to need something festive to finish things off. DIY decorated eggs are a crowd pleaser and something adults and children alike can enjoy preparing ahead of the day. WHAT’S IN SEASON: FOOD
At Lettice, we are advocates of conscious consumption; it’s always best to use seasonal and sustainable ingredients when feeding your guests and we really are spoilt for choice in spring. For brunch, perhaps poached eggs with skillet seared salmon and asparagus, or baked seafood-stuffed avocado or mushrooms (April is a great time of year for seafood such as crab, cod and salmon).
If you are hosting a more traditional lunch or dinner, spring lamb paired with new potatoes and a salad of spring greens, radish and pistachios is a sure-bet to satisfy taste buds. Alternatively, if you are feeling more adventurous, you could try duck breast with braised red cabbage and pickled cherries.
